PRESIDENT, UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, RICHMOND
PRESIDENT, UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, RICHMOND
Virginia Business// August 29, 2022//
When Hallock became the University of Richmond’s new president last summer, it was on the heels of controversy, as the private university’s board decided not to change the names of two buildings honoring two men who supported slavery and segregation, even though students and faculty protested. However, board members changed their minds in the past year, and now six buildings have different names, and the university’s beleaguered former rector concluded his term.
Hallock came to Richmond after spending 16 years at Cornell University, where he served as dean of its business college. A labor market economist, he also teaches at the University of Richmond, a tradition among its presidents.
A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Princeton, Hallock serves on the board of trustees for the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges and is a member of regional leadership for the Greater Richmond Partnership.
