Since taking the helm of “public ivy” William & Mary in 2019, Rowe has overseen a number of initiatives, including establishing an entrepreneurial hub and a teaching innovation studio, as well as implementing climate action plans and efforts to increase diversity.

In 2021, William & Mary announced a partnership with The Posse Foundation to grant scholarships to students from low-income backgrounds. Following a $10 million donation from an anonymous donor, William & Mary developed a program aimed at helping veterans transition into civilian work life.

In February, Rowe announced the launch of Vision 2026, a strategic plan focusing on career development, data sciences, democracy and coastal resilience. The alma mater of Thomas Jefferson, Jon Stewart and Glenn Close also has moved some of its master’s programs online, aiming to reach more people already in the workforce.

A Harvard University and Carleton College graduate, Rowe has an entrepreneurial background, having co-founded and served as CEO of Luminary Digital Media, a software company that developed apps to assist students with understanding Shakespeare. She serves on a Virginia Space Grant Consortium board that promotes STEM education and workforce development. Last year, Rowe’s contract was renewed through 2028.
