Economic development deals to generate 4,000 jobs

A Richmond-area economic development group worked on 15 projects in the past fiscal year, which are expected to result in 4,000 new jobs and $2.7 billion in new capital investment.

The biggest deal of the 2013-14 fiscal year for the Greater Richmond Partnership was a June announcement by Shandong Tranlin Paper Co. It plans to invest $2 billion over five years in building its first U.S. advanced manufacturing plant in Chesterfield County. The Chinese company expects to employ 2,000 people at the plant by 2020.

Other major deals included plans for:

• A 1 million-square-foot distribution center eastern Henrico County announced in August 2013 by Toano-based flooring retailer Lumber Liquidators. The $46 million facility will occupy a 110-acre site in the White Oak Technology Park. The company did not disclose how many jobs the project would create.

•  A 400,000-square-foot distribution center in Chesterfield County’s Meadowville Technology Park announced in November 2013 by Illinois-based Medline Industries Inc., a health-care supplies manufacturer and distributor. The $21 million investment is expected to create 25 jobs.

• A new customer service center in Henrico County announced in  April by Paris-based Teleperformance, a global customer relations company. The  $3.5 million investment is expected to create 500 jobs.
