Dominion Energy Charity Classic golf tournament kicks off this week

A field of 72 professional senior golfers are set to play the Dominion Energy Charity Classic starting Thursday at the Country Club of Virginia’s James River course, one of three PGA Tour Champions playoff events to determine the annual Charles Schwab Cup Champion.

This year’s tournament runs through Sunday and has a $2 million purse. The event also will benefit the Richmond Fisher House, which provides lodging for families of veterans receiving care at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, and the Virginia Values Veterans (V3) program, which the Virginia Veterans Services Foundation runs to help employers recruit and hire veterans. Now in its fourth year, the tournament has raised about $1.8 million for charity.

Along with the charitable support, the tournament hosted a Military Resource Day on Monday to provide tailored business attire to veterans and active-duty service members, and it also held a special golf experience for wounded war veterans, including those with post-traumatic stress disorder and brain injuries. All service members, retirees, reserve and National Guard members and their dependents will receive complimentary grounds admission to the tournament.

On Friday, country music artist Chase Rice will perform live in the Fan Zone at the course, after the Military Appreciation Ceremony when tournament play concludes. For more information on the Charity Classic, visit deccgolf.com.
