Reston-based defense and government contractor SOS International (SOSi) announced Tuesday that it has been awarded an up to $875 million contract by the U.S. Department of Justice to deliver language interpretation services to the Executive Office for Immigration Review and other DOJ offices.
The EOIR is an agency whose primary function is to adjudicate immigration cases, including determining whether non-citizens may be deported from the United States or are eligible for relief from removal. SOSi’s indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract involves delivering a wide array of interpretation and translation services, including on-site, over-the-phone and video remote interpretation. It also covers written translation, computer-aided real-time transcription and translation of recordings across EOIR immigration court hearing locations nationwide.
SOSi said it has processed more than one million EOIR interpretation orders since 2015 under two consecutive prime contracts, with a reported quality rating of 99.8%. The company said it built its own web-based system that allows real-time tracking of assignments and interpreter use.
“This award reaffirms the Justice Department’s confidence in SOSi’s expertise and proven ability to scale and manage complex operations supporting essential language access requirements,” SOSi Senior Vice President for Civil Solutions Charles O’Brien said in a statement.
In a statement, SOSi CEO Julian Setian said the company plans to scale its WordBridge platform for on-demand interpretation this year, enabling government and commercial customers to access faster, more reliable language services.
SOSi did not immediately respond to request for comment.
Founded in 1989, SOSi provides advanced technology and mission support services. Its work spans data science, software development, network engineering, logistics and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. The company serves customers in law enforcement, national security, health care and humanitarian missions, and maintains a network of thousands of interpreters covering more than 300 languages and dialects.
