Danville has named a new director of economic development. Telly D. Tucker, assistant economic development director in James City County, will take on the role July 1.

The position has been vacant since Danville’s former economic development director, Jeremy Stratton, resigned in February to take another post.

Tucker was selected from 62 applicants, according to a statement on Danville’s Economic Development website.

He has served as James City County’s assistant economic development director for three years. Before that, he was an enterprise zone program administrator with the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.

He began his career with the City of Lynchburg, where he served as its economic development specialist for three years.
