One hundred eighty-six companies announced plans to expand or relocate in Fairfax County last year, moves expected to create more than 8,400 jobs.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) said companies in the professional services and information technology sectors dominated announcements in 2012.
The biggest deal involved satellite services provider Intelsat, which will relocate its U.S. headquarters from Washington, D.C., to Tysons Corner in 2014. The move will bring more than 430 employees to the county.
In another announcement, TASC will add 494 jobs in an expansion. The company provides engineering and decision-support services to the intelligence and defense communities.
Seventy-four percent of companies making announcements (138) are based in the U.S. They included Kaiser Permanente, adding 146 jobs in opening a Tysons Corner medical center; IT solutions provider Carahsoft Technology, adding 109 jobs; and Fulcrum IT Services, an IT services provider, adding 80.
Foreign-owned companies announcing expansions included Volkswagen Group of America (Germany), adding 107 jobs, and Newgen Software (India), adding 40.
