Cloverleaf Cold Storage, a cold-storage warehousing and food logistics company, will invest $21 million in adding more than 100,000 square feet to its Chesapeake facility.
Company expects to create 33 additional jobs as a result of the expansion.
Virginia competed with Maryland and North Carolina for the project.
Cloverleaf says the project will allow it to increase its blast-freezing, exporting and importing service volume while accommodating more refrigerated products for new customers in the mid-Atlantic region.
The company operates 19 warehouses across the U.S., providing a variety of food-grade storage, handling, and freezing services.
Cloverleaf has more than 800 customers, many of whom have been with the company for more than 30 years.
The company’s Chesapeake facility, which has nearly 40 employees, is on a 10-acre site in the Cavalier Industrial Park.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) worked with the Chesapeake to secure the project.
VEDP will support Cloverleaf’s job creation through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP). The program provides consultative services and funding to companies creating new jobs or experiencing technological change in order to support employee training activities.
As a business incentive supporting economic development, VJIP reduces the human-resource costs of new and expanding companies.
