Chesterfield hires director of real estate assessments

Chesterfield County has hired Melvin Bloomfield to be its director of real estate assessments.

Bloomfield has been Richmond’s deputy director of real estate assessments for the past seven years. He begins his new role Oct. 4.

“We are ecstatic to have Mel joining the Chesterfield family. He brings a wealth of expertise and experience that is unmatched in the field,” Matt Harris, deputy county administrator for finance and administration, said in a statement.

Ashley DeBiase has been the acting director for the past six months.

Bloomfield graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor’s degree in real estate and urban land development and has more than 20 years of experience. He became the deputy director in Richmond in 2014 and was the interim director in 2016-2017.

“I am excited about coming to Chesterfield County and working with its leadership team,” Bloomfield said in a statement. “I look forward to adding my leadership and years of experience that will assist Chesterfield’s real estate assessment office in fulfilling its mission and continue to create fair and equitable real property assessments across the county.”

Richie McKeithen, Richmond’s director of real estate assessments, described Bloomfield as a “hard working and dedicated employee.”

“He was an extremely valuable member of our office,” McKeithen said in a statement, “and he will be deeply missed.”
