Charter One said Wednesday that it has expanded its home lending business to serve consumers in Virginia. The bank, a division of RBS Citizens, will open a mortgage office in Glen Alle in Henrico County. It will be at the same location where parent company RBS Citizens Financial Group manages its Home Lending Solutions business for Charter One and its sister bank, Citizens Bank.

Hal Dalton will lead the expansion of Charter One’s home lending business in the state. He is responsible for managing the newly formed Glen Allen office and recruiting talent to staff it.

“The opening of this new location is the first step in our plans to strengthen and grow our mortgage lending footprint beyond the 12 states where we operate as Charter One in the Midwest and Citizens Bank in New England and the Mid-Atlantic,” Glenn Carter, executive vice president of RBS Citizens Financial Group, said in a statement.

“We know that Virginia is a vibrant real estate market, and are excited to grow our business and service the home lending needs of consumers in the region.”

Dalton has more than 26 years of mortgage experience in Virginia. He joins Charter One from Village Bank Mortgage where he managed a team of loan officers who primarily served the Mechanicsville area. Before his tenure with Village Bank, he was vice president and manager of Virginia First Mortgage Funding L.L.C.
