Chantilly-based engineering and tech contractor American Systems Corp. announced Monday it has promoted Sheri Murphy to the newly created position of vice president of quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Murphy joined the company in 1996 and was most recently the director of IT governance, risk and compliance. In her new role, she will advise company leadership on the design, implementation and improvement of processes, programs and initiatives focused on program management, corporate business standards, quality assurance and risk management.

“Sheri has led us through the rigors of maintaining and growing our quality certifications while ensuring we remain compliant with a wide array of government regulations and directives,” American Systems President and CEO Peter Smith said in a statement. “Her depth and breadth of experience combined with her commitment to her craft and long tenure at American Systems made her an excellent choice for this new role.”

Founded in 1975, American Systems provides engineering and IT services to government clients. The employee-owned company employs nearly 1,500 people nationwide.
