CEO leaves DynCorp after only three weeks

McLean-based DynCorp International said Friday that CEO Gordon Walsh has left the company after serving in the position only since July 21.

James E. Geisler, a veteran defense and aerospace industry executive, has been named the company’s interim CEO, effective immediately.

DynCorp said in a news release that Walsh’s departure was not related to the company’s “operational or financial performance.” Beatrice Livioco, spokeswoman for DynCorp, said the company didn’t have any other information to share at this time.

The Wall Street Journal reported that recent problems at L-3 Communications, Walsh’s previous employer, were seen as a distraction to his duties at Dyncorp.

Walsh had been president of the logistics solutions business at L-3’s aerospace system unit.

L-3 last week reported alleged misconduct and accounting errors with a maintenance and logistics support contract. The Journal said L-3 fired four employees and fifth resigned.

“The company believes that the amounts associated with these adjustments are the result of misconduct and accounting errors at the Aerospace Systems segment. The misconduct included concealment from L-3’s corporate staff and external auditors,” L-3 said in a news release.

A search committee has been formed at DynCorp to hire a new CEO.

 DynCorp is a defense company that serves commercial, government and military customers. L-3 is a defense contractor whose customers include the U.S. government and corporations around the world.
