A new leasing team has been put in place at Riverfront Plaza in downtown Richmond as the two twin towers undergo renovations.

Property owner Hines, an international real estate firm based in Houston, has selected CBRE|Richmond as the exclusive leasing agent for Riverfront Plaza, located at 901 and 951 East Byrd Street.

Completed in 1990, the property includes twin 20-story towers of about 930,000 square feet of office and retail space.  The Class A buildings, which offer sweeping views of the James River and the city of Richmond, have numerous onsite amenities such as a full-time concierge, optical center with optician, private fitness center, around-the-clock security and an expansive outdoor plaza.

“Riverfront Plaza has long been considered the premier downtown office location,” Trib Sutton, senior vice president of CBRE|Richmond, said in a statement. “The owners have recently completed several improvement projects and plan additional upgrades to the common areas.”

Sutton, along with Walton Makepeace and David Wilkins, will handle the leasing and marketing of the property.

So far, the main lobbies have received new flatscreens and directories. The building’s bathrooms will be updated soon as well as the elevator cabs, and new furniture is planned.

Major tenants include: Hunton & Williams; BB&T; LeClairRyan; UBS; Deloitte and Services.

Riverfront Plaza has seen some major reshuffling in space in recent years, including the phasing out of most of its Richmond operations by what was formerly Wachovia Securities. The brokerage, now Wells Fargo Advisors, merged with A.G. Edwards in 2007 and put up a lot of its space for sublease. According to CBRE, current vacancy is about 237,000 square feet.
