Bob McDonnell to resist such appeals. The minute-long ad features the accented voices of Southside Virginians decrying the alleged ills of uranium mining and its potential to spoil the environment.

Bike tailgating measure clings to life in Va. House

RICHMOND A legislative effort to outlaw tailgating bicycles is clinging to life in the General Assembly. A Senate-passed bill (SB1060) from Sen. Bryce Reeves, R-Fredericksburg, approved by a House subcommittee today, would add bikes and other non-motorized vehicles to the list of those that cannot be followed “more closely than is reasonable and prudent.”

RICHMOND The House of Delegates has passed legislation to keep the names of concealed handgun permit holders secret. Republican Sen. Mark Obenshain's bill originally just shielded the names of permit applicants who have obtained protective orders against another person. The House Militia and Police Committee last week expanded the bill to cover anyone who obtains a permit.

Va. Assembly honors Olympic gold medalist Douglas

RICHMOND Olympic gymnast Gabrielle Douglas has been recognized by the Virginia General Assembly. Douglas received a standing ovation today by the state Senate, which presented the Virginia Beach native a framed copy of a resolution honoring her for her accomplishments.
