Va. House panel backs youth sports concussions bill

RICHMOND Youth sports programs that use public school property would have to establish procedures for identifying and handling concussions if legislation advancing in the Virginia General Assembly becomes law. The House Education Committee voted 16-5 to endorse the bill today. The measure has already passed the Senate.

Proposal mandates community service for litterers

RICHMOND Anyone caught littering will have to serve at least 10 hours of community service under a bill that’s on its way to passing the General Assembly. The House Courts of Justice Committee this evening OK’d SB1166 to mandate the minimum punishment for throwing trash on the ground. It will go to the full House for a vote later this week.

Photo ID mandate for voters nears passage in Virginia

RICHMOND A contentious proposal to require Virginia voters to present photo identification at the polls is one step away from passage in the General Assembly. The House Appropriations Committee approved the measure today on a largely party-line 15-7 vote, advancing it to the House floor, where Republicans hold a commanding majority.
