Sexual, domestic violence clearinghouse started in Va.

RICHMOND A new online resource is available for Virginia professionals who deal with sexual and domestic violence. The attorney general's office announced the establishment of the Community Solutions to Sexual and Domestic Violence website Wednesday. It's a clearinghouse that includes training materials, evaluation tools, conference announcements, brochures, model policies and other resources.

Tax bite felt while buying a car, but not filling it up

The revenue-generating pieces of a pivotal $6 billion road funding bill for Virginia kicked into gear Monday as a new gas tax took effect and merchants began charging higher sales taxes. In Hampton Roads, the combined state and local sales tax increased to 6 percent from 5 percent. That's an extra penny on the dollar, or another $100 on top of a $10,000 purchase.
