Canadian company to acquire County Waste of Virginia

West Point-based County Waste of Virginia LLC and its subsidiaries will be acquired by Canadian waste management company GFL Environmental Inc, GFL announced Tuesday.

The acquisition is subject to approval under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, which requires parties to notify the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice of large mergers and acquisitions. The companies will not be able to merge operations until the FTC and DOJ have determined the merger will not negatively affect U.S. commerce antitrust laws.

The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, but the definitive acquisition agreement is anticipated to close in January.

County Waste offers solid waste management services to municipal, residential, commercial and industrial customers in Virginia and eastern Pennsylvania and operates a landfill in Troutville.

GFL is headquartered in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, and has facilities in 23 U.S. states serving more than 135,000 commercial and industrial customers with its workforce of more than 11,000 employees.
