A vacant 36,000-square-foot office building in downtown Roanoke has been sold, and the new owners reportedly plan a mixed-use project with apartments, commercial space and artists’ studios.
Formerly used by Leggett’s and Carilion Health Plans, the 36,000-square-foot building had been vacant for several years.
According to Boyd Johnson of Hall Associates, Inc., who represented the buyers, a group of local developers, Ken Ferris, John Garland and Cecil Doyle, bought the building for $375,00. It has a three-story atrium and storefronts on both Campbell and Kirk Avenues.
Johnson said the owners plan to restore the façade on Campbel. About 30 percent of the building will be set aside for commercial use and artists’ studios, with the upper floors used for apartments.
