Bon Secours Virginia Health System has been named to a national list of top 10 nonprofits for executive women.
The Top Companies for Executive Women was compiled by National Association for Female Executives and Working Mother magazine.
Richmond-based Bon Secours was the only Virginia nonprofit listed. It has made the list 10 times.
“Almost a third of the board of directors seats at the NAFE Top 10 Nonprofits are occupied by women, and two thirds of the top tenth of earners are female,” the organization says on its website. “Plus, almost half of all the executives with profit-and-loss responsibilities at these companies are women.”
Women make up 44 percent of Bon Secours’ executives and 73 percent of its senior managers. Also, half of its board of directors are women.
Bon Secours has hospitals in the Richmond area and in Hampton Roads.
The other nonprofits on the list are: Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta; Horizon Healthcare Services Inc., Newark, N.J.; March of Dimes Foundation, White Plains, N.Y.; Mercy Health System, Janesville, Wis.; Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, Chicago; Scripps Health, San Diego; Wellstar Health System, Marietta, Ga; Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven, Conn.; and TriHealth, Cincinnati.
NAFE also compiles a separate list of 50 top for-profit companies for executive women. On that list this year were Northrop Grumman, Freddie Mac and Capital One.
