Clemente is the son-in-law of NVR founder Dwight Schar, who is a co-owner of Comstock Holdings and Comstock Partners with Clemente. Founded in 1985, the privately held Comstock is among the mid-Atlantic’s largest developers of mixed-use and transit-oriented developments. Comstock’s 2023 revenue was $44.7 million, with a managed portfolio of 49 properties.
It’s best known for developing Reston Station, the 10-acre, mixed-use ongoing redevelopment project being built out around Reston’s first Metro station. When complete, it’s expected to have nearly 10 million square feet of development, including office, retail and hospitality space. In May, Comstock topped out the new JW Marriott Hotel and Residences on The Row at Reston Station, a 243-room hotel that will include 25,000 square feet of event and meeting space, as well as 94 condos.
Last year, the company advocated building a casino in Fairfax County, which would have required action by state legislators. Twin bills were introduced in January, but these failed to advance and saw opposition from the Reston Association and other community groups. Comstock hired six lobbyists and donated $529,000 to state legislative candidates in 2023, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.
