Health Care 2023: DR. STERLING N. RANSONE JR.

A third-generation family physician, Ransone also serves as board chair for the American Academy of Family Physicians, the professional association representing 136,700 physicians and medical students nationwide.

A family medicine practitioner for more than 25 years, he is physician practice director at Riverside Fishing Bay Family Practice in rural Deltaville.

He joined AAFP in 1995 and represented Virginia in the medical academy’s Congress of Delegates for 10 years. He previously served as chapter president, vice president and chair of the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians. He is also a past chair of the Medical Society of Virginia and president of the Mid-Tidewater Medical Society. He is currently a delegate in the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates.

Ransone holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology from William & Mary and earned his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
