Atlantic Union Bankshares appoints new CFO

TD Bank Group executive to join company on April 13

Atlantic Union Bankshares has appointed Alexander D. Dodd as , effective April 13, the -based bank holding company announced Tuesday.

He will succeed Robert M. Gorman, who is retiring after nearly 14 years with the company. Gorman will remain with the company through Sept. 30 to assist with the transition, serving as an executive adviser. Gorman announced his retirement last March, and the company launched a nationwide search to find his successor.

Dodd joins Atlantic Union from TD Bank Group, which has its United States headquarters in New Jersey. There, he served in multiple senior finance management leadership roles for more than 20 years, including his most recent position as deputy and executive vice president. He started his career at MBNA and later joined TD Banknorth before its combination with Commerce Bank.

“Alex will be a valuable addition to our leadership team,” President and CEO John C. Asbury said in a statement. “He brings more than 20 years of enterprise finance leadership experience across U.S. and Canadian banking, including serving as interim CFO for TD Bank’s U.S. operations — a $375 billion asset institution.”

Dodd is a graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy, holds an MBA from Loyola University Maryland and is a chartered financial analyst.

Atlantic Union Bankshares is the holding company for , which has branches and ATMs located in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Washington, D.C. As of Dec. 31, 2025, Atlantic Union Bank had $37.6 billion in total assets and $30.5 billion in total deposits.
