Ashby Ponds, an Erickson Living retirement community, continues to expand in Loudoun County. The company said Monday that construction has begun on two new projects: Hickory Glen, a new independent living residential building, and Great Oak Clubhouse.
Hickory Glen, the community’s 8th independent residential building, is a $14.3 million project that will include 68 independent apartments with 14 floor plans. The 124,000-square-foot building will include residences with one- and two-bedroom units.
Nearly half of the apartment homes will offer an outdoor living space with a screened-in porch or a patio. Covered, underground parking also will be available for residents.
“The rising demand for additional residences at Ashby Ponds is undeniable. Two-thirds of the apartment homes in Hickory Glen have already been reserved,” Holly Henderson, director of sales at Ashby Ponds, said in a statement.
Great Oak Clubhouse will be the second community building on the 132-acre campus in Ashburn. The $7.9 million project will offer a 20,000-square-foot clubhouse that includes a performing arts theater, a café, banquet room, art studio and gallery, and a new control room for the community’s in-house television station.
The clubhouse will give residents a fifth dining venue and a large-scale performance place.
Both projects are scheduled to open by early 2015. The Baltimore-based firm of Marks, Thomas Architects is the project architect. Whiting-Turner is the general contractor for both projects.
Ashby Ponds is one of 17 retirement communities managed by Erickson Living, based out of Baltimore. Currently, the community is home to more than 725 residents.
