A Northern Virginia firm has gotten a boost of cash from a startup competition that emphasizes female entrepreneurship.
Ashburn-based Aperiomics, a pathogen-testing company, last month won the $20,000 grand prize in the Vinetta Project pitch challenge in Washington, D.C.
Aperiomics CEO Crystal Icenhour launched the company in 2014 as a business that tests for bacteria, DNA viruses, fungi and parasites for clinicians and patients.
Icenhour beat out three other female company founders in the final round of the competition held by the Vinetta Project, a company with chapters around the U.S. and Canada focused on supporting female tech founders.
