Why did you decide to become a lawyer? I was about 10 years old growing up in Japan when I watched a courtroom drama that featured a female prosecutor. Gender stereotyping was still strong in Japan at the time, so seeing a strong female character was unique and I wanted to be just like her. Somehow, I never stopped thinking that I’d become a lawyer over the years after that.

What advice do you have for college students considering a legal career? Take every opportunity to do something new or different. A path to a legal career is expansive and one of the most flexible ones. No experience would be wasted because everything will help you in some way when advising your clients as a lawyer. So do whatever interests you and don’t write it off just because it’s not a pre-law class or an internship at a law firm.
