As an executive of the Virginia Port Authority’s nonprofit affiliate that operates the Port of Virginia, Ruddy oversees operations, information technology, safety, security and capacity expansion projects and maintenance at the state’s marine terminals in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Richmond and Front Royal, as well as its chassis pool.
He took over as chief operations officer in December 2021, but the role is one he was already familiar with: He held the same job from 2011 to 2014.
Prior to starting his new position, Ruddy was chief innovation officer for the Virginia Port Authority, overseeing strategic planning. He received a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Wesleyan University and a master’s degree from the College of New Jersey.
Ruddy serves on the board of directors for We Are VB, a nonprofit focused on improving the quality of life for homeless and at-risk students in Virginia Beach, as well as the Beach FC soccer club. He also is vice chair of the Hampton Roads Cystic Fibrosis Foundation board and is a Hampton Roads Shipping Association board member.
