Real Estate: LOUIS S. ‘LOU’ HADDAD

Haddad was recruited to Armada Hoffler in 1985 as an on-site construction superintendent. He rose through the ranks and became president of Armada Hoffler Construction Co. in 1987. He was promoted to president of parent company Armada Hoffler Holding Co. in 1996. Three years later, he became CEO.

In 2013, Haddad led Armada Hoffler’s initial public offering and its transition to a publicly traded company. Today, Armada Hoffler Properties is a real estate investment trust that develops, builds, acquires and manages office, retail and multifamily properties, primarily in the mid-Atlantic and Southeastern states.

In January, Armada Hoffler invested $246 million to acquire a 79% stake in the Exelon building in Baltimore’s Harbor Point neighborhood, adjacent to its other holdings there. The company also is partnering with music icon Pharrell Williams and Live Nation on the redevelopment of Norfolk’s Military Circle mall.

Haddad is co-founder, along with his wife, Mary, of the Louis & Mary Haddad Foundation, which seeks to improve the lives of disadvantaged and at-risk children. He also has been active with organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the American Heart Association and Special Olympics.
