Real Estate 2023: LOUIS J. ROGERS

Since Rogers founded Capital Square in 2012, the real estate investment company has completed more than $7.5 billion in transaction volume and grew from handling mainly Delaware Statutory Trust 1031 Exchange offerings to launching a real estate investment trust and developing and operating multifamily properties across the nation.

In September 2022, Rogers’ son-in-law, Whitson Huffman, was promoted to co-CEO after serving as Capital Square’s chief strategy and investment officer. Capital Square was named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies last year for the sixth year in a row, with an annual growth rate of 282%. In March, the company launched a subsidiary, Capital Square Living, to oversee management of its multifamily holdings. It also started a private equity group last year.

Capital Square is an active developer of multifamily properties, with eight current projects totaling approximately 2,000 apartment units at a development cost of more than $500 million. The company has been the largest developer in Richmond’s Scott’s Addition neighborhood.

A Northeastern University, Oxford University and University of Virginia School of Law alum, Rogers was previously a partner at the Hirschler Fleischer law firm.
