In 1986, Hartman joined Roanoke-based accounting firm Brown Edwards, which has made Inside Public Accounting’s list of the top 100 U.S. accounting firms based on net reviews for six years running. (It’s ranked at No. 72 this year, rising one spot from 2022.)
Responsible for spearheading the company’s financial management, strategic plan, growth and direction, Hartman earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in accounting from Glenville State College, now Glenville State University, in West Virginia and James Madison University, respectively.
Named a 2023 Best Tax and Accounting Firm in America by Forbes, Brown Edwards reported $80.1 million in revenue last year and employs 350 people in Virginia.
Hartman is a member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a past board member of Feeding Southwest Virginia, a member of Feeding America.
