As CEO of the U.Va. Foundation for the past three decades, Rose oversees most of the real estate endeavors for the state’s flagship public university and
its associated organizations.
Currently, Rose is working with U.Va. on a large affordable housing project, as well as the construction of a $130.5 million hotel and conference center, set to open in 2025. The affordable housing initiative will create communities in Charlottesville and Albemarle County, with a goal of developing 1,000 to 1,500 affordable housing units over the next decade.
Also under the foundation’s purview is the maintenance of the Boar’s Head Resort and Birdwood Golf Course, as well as Morven, an Albemarle County property including Morven Farm, donated to the foundation by late television mogul and billionaire John Kluge in 2001. It is set to become U.Va.’s sustainability lab, where scientists will conduct research on sustainable agriculture and other areas of study.
Rose, who previously served as an assistant vice president for administration at U.Va., worked in student affairs at Miami and James Madison universities. He received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Miami University in Ohio and his doctorate from U.Va.
