Jain is an engineer and multiple patent holder with a degree in mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. After moving to the U.S. in 1968, he earned his master’s degree in material science from Villanova University and his MBA from the University of Lynchburg.
Jain has led Virginia Transformer Corp., the largest U.S.-owned power transformer manufacturer in North America, since 1982, and the company is solely owned by his family. Virginia Transformer provides custom-engineered power transformers for a wide variety of applications in the energy generation, transmission and distribution markets. It currently operates four plants across the country with a fifth plant, the largest, slated to open in October in Mexico. The company has 2,000 employees, with 400 in Virginia.
A former chair of the Virginia/DC District Export Council, Jain has served on the boards of the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Roanoke Valley. He’s also funded a STEM education initiative for students in Roanoke.
