Virginia Business// August 30, 2023//
Often regarded as one of the most influential players in the Washington, D.C., area’s real estate arena, Ritchey announced in March his plans to shift away from his full-time role with Boston Properties at the end of the year. He led the national real estate investment trust’s Washington-region operations, including 170 employees and 36 properties with about 10 million square feet. He’ll continue to be part of the company’s executive management team, coordinating leasing and supporting client relationships.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and the Naval Postgraduate School who served as a naval officer, Ritchey joined the publicly traded Boston-based REIT in 1980 and stepped into his senior executive vice president position in 2016. Among his achievements were developing Reston Town Center and the Transportation Security Administration headquarters in Springfield, as well as Marriott International’s headquarters in Maryland.
Ritchey is the board president of the Washington, D.C.-based Spanish Education Development (SED) Center and a founding member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties’ Northern Virginia chapter. In 2022, he was inducted into the Washington Business Hall of Fame.
