In his role as managing partner of the firm’s Richmond office, Herring represents people and corporations accused of white-collar crimes or involved in commercial litigation or government investigations. Herring served for 13 years as Richmond’s commonwealth’s attorney before joining McGuireWoods in 2019. In 2021, the firm named him managing partner of its Richmond office.
Herring aided Richmond police in developing strategies to reduce homicides and violent crimes and founded criminal justice reforms adopted elsewhere in the state. He frequently presents at conferences and programs devoted to improving the criminal justice system.
Prior to his government service, Herring represented plaintiffs in medical malpractice, personal injury and criminal defense litigation as a partner at Bricker & Herring. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and earned his law degree from U.Va.’s School of Law in 1990.
Herring also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Richmond School of Law and is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
