Henrico lab to ship 150,000 COVID-19 tests per month

Glen Allen-based GENETWORx Laboratories said it will soon begin shipping at least 800 COVID-19 test kits per day, with a goal of ramping up manufacturing enough to deliver 150,000 during the month of April.

A unit of Pennsylvania-based Recovery Centers of America (RCA), GENETWORx Laboratories says it can provide test results within 24 hours of receiving samples.

GENETWORx pivoted to producing COVID-19 tests shortly after the outbreak began and has repurposed a portion of its lab space, according to a news release.

“We want to do our part in contributing our expertise to help in the nation’s battle against coronavirus. The technology we have developed not only allows us to mass-produce these much needed COVID-19 tests but also ensures an accurate test result in a timely 24-hour response time from receipt of the sample,” said William Miller, CEO of GENETWORx, in a statement released Tuesday.

GENETWORx provides healthcare professionals with tools to individualize treatment plans for patients using their DNA map. It also functions as a molecular diagnostic laboratory in the infectious disease and clinical chemistry fields. GENETWORx also provides its parent company, RCA, with a comprehensive panel of clinical and general wellness tests.
