As president of Nashville-based HCA’s Capital Division, McManus oversees 19 hospitals in Virginia, New Hampshire, Indiana and Kentucky. HCA has more than 283,000 employees, about 17,000 of whom work within the Richmond-headquartered Capital Division.
Before starting his current role in 2016, McManus was CEO of HCA’s Chippenham and Johnston-Willis hospitals in Chesterfield County. In Tysons, a standalone emergency room affiliated with Reston Hospital Center opened in June, and HCA Virginia purchased 12 BetterMed Urgent Care centers the same month in greater Richmond, Fredericksburg and Charlotte, North Carolina. The purchase brings the health care system’s number of urgent care centers in Virginia to 13.
A graduate of Tulane and Johns Hopkins universities with degrees in psychology and health care administration, McManus is vice chairman of the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association’s board.
