A vascular surgeon, Kent joined UVA Health in February 2020, just a month before COVID-19 turned everything upside down — with few affected more than health care industry leaders. The University of Virginia Medical Center swiftly opened a new site for COVID-19 patients in April 2020, an expansion planned to open later in the year.
UVA Health, which employs about 16,000 people and includes the main Charlottesville hospital, a children’s hospital and schools of nursing and medicine, is integrating a network of outpatient clinics across Culpeper and Northern Virginia, which it became full owner of last year.
U.Va. Medical Center was named second place in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-23 best hospitals in Virginia and topped Newsweek’s list of hospitals in the state. This summer, U.S. News temporarily delisted U.Va.’s medical school from its top graduate school rankings after the university corrected a data error. The medical school ranks at No. 30 for research and No. 35 for primary care on the 2023 list.
Before joining UVA Health, Kent was dean of Ohio State University’s medical school.
