The website Crowdfund Insider describes Morris “as one of the most famous and successful fintech investors in the world.”

Along with Richard Fairbank, who Morris calls “one of the most special human beings on the planet,” Morris co-founded Capital One Financial Corp. in the early 1990s. He left his position as Capital One’s president and chief operating officer in 2004.

Initially, Morris returned to his native England, where he got involved with organizations like National Geographic and the Brookings Institution. “I thought that perhaps I might just be a pluralist for a while, and dibble and dabble and generally be a dilettante, until I found the experience, though interesting, wasn’t enough,” he told students at his alma mater London Business School in March.

Morris then returned to the United States and in 2007 co-founded a global venture capital firm focused on financial services companies. Today, QED Investors has invested in more than 180 companies and has $4.8 billion under management. Notable investments include CreditKarma, SoFi and Mission Lane.

In September, QED announced it had closed on an oversubscribed seventh fund (“Fund VII”), with capital commitments of $1.05 billion.
