In September 2021, Castellanos became president of Bank of America Hampton Roads following the retirement of Charlie Henderson, who filled that position for 15 years.
A native of Cuba, Castellanos is also Merrill Lynch Wealth Management’s top Virginia executive, and he previously worked in Bank of America’s policy office, where he focused on cyber and international policy issues.
Before entering finance, Castellanos spent 20 years as a Foreign Service officer in the Middle East, Latin America and Asia, a role that included command positions in war zones and other hostile environments. Additionally, Castellanos served on several interagency boards, where he guided U.S. policy. A resident of Williamsburg who has three sons, Castellanos previously sat on the National Security Advisory Board for Janes, a global agency for open-source defense intelligence.
