Blue took the helm of the Fortune 500 utility in October 2020, less than a year after the company announced a plan to achieve net-zero carbon and methane emissions from power generation and natural gas operations by 2050. A CEO who’s been known to kayak or canoe to work along the James River, he’s taken on the project with enthusiasm, shepherding Dominion’s planned $9.8 billion, 176-turbine offshore wind farm, which was approved by the State Corporation Commission in August.
“We are focused on building a more sustainable future,” says Blue, who has said nuclear power also will be a critical component of the utility’s net-zero goals.
Dominion reaps around $14 billion in annual revenue and provides energy to nearly 7 million customers in 13 states.
Blue, whose background is in law, joined the company in 2005 as managing director of state affairs and corporate policy. He graduated from Yale Law School and served as counselor and director of policy for U.S. Sen. Mark Warner during Warner’s term as Virginia’s governor. Blue also earned an MBA from the University of Virginia.
He serves as vice chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute and sits on the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond’s board of directors and U.Va.’s board of visitors.
