CHANCELLOR, UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA’S COLLEGE AT WISE, WISE
Virginia Business// August 29, 2022//
In addition to serving as chancellor of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise (a post she has held since 2013), Henry teaches in its biology department. She also launched the school’s largest fundraising campaign, aiming to raise its endowment by $100 million.
Additionally, a 2019 state law opened in-state tuition rates at U.Va. Wise to students from other parts of Appalachia, which Henry said would give the school a bigger recruitment base. For Virginia students from families that make $40,000 or less per year, another program helps cover tuition and fees, and the school provides faculty and students with iPads, smart pencils and keyboards.
Henry was previously at Florida Gulf Coast University, where she served as arts and sciences dean, and St. Thomas University in Florida. She is a member of GO Virginia’s Region 1 council and serves on the board of the Southwest Virginia Health Authority.
WHAT MAKES ME PASSIONATE ABOUT MY WORK: Seeing students succeed and finding their path to a career. Many students are the first in their families to attend college. Their time at U.Va. Wise is life-changing.
