HCA Virginia’s Reston Hospital Center plans to break ground on a second major expansion late this year.

It will include a new intensive care unit, additional patient rooms and an expansion and renovation of the hospital’s Women’s and Children Services, including its Level III NICU.

In addition to expansion of patient care areas, Reston Hospital will refurbish the lobbies, cafeteria, and other patient support areas located on the main level. Also included will be the addition of a new visitor corridor and a second parking garage.

This year marks the hospital’s 30th anniversary. The expansion is aimed at keeping up with the area’s growth. It follows a recently completed project that included an 180,000-square-foot medical office building and renovation of the hospital’s pediatric facilities.

“We’ve seen our community grow exponentially over the years. This region’s commercial and residential development will be further accelerated with the expansion of public transit infrastructure,” John Deardorff, president and CEO of Reston Hospital Center, said in a statement. “This expansion will ensure our ability to meet the ongoing demand for healthcare services within the community … “

Part of the HCA Virginia Health System, Reston Hospital Center is a 187-bed, acute-care medical and surgical facility.
