American Systems wins $173M Navy contract

McLean company to test and evaluate emerging technologies

McLean-based federal engineering and IT contractor announced that it has received a $172.7 million contract to continue testing and evaluating new military technologies, including and sensors.

The award continues work from a $59 million contract issued in 2022, which is set to expire next year. Under the new contract, the company will support the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division’s demonstration and assessment team. American Systems will lead a team of operational test and cybersecurity experts to help the Navy and Marine Corps evaluate and test new military technologies in realistic environments, giving decision-makers timely, data-driven insight into how new capabilities perform. A company spokesperson said the work will not be confined to a single location.

“This milestone reflects the trust our Navy partners place in American Systems and the exceptional work of our team,” said American Systems President and CEO John Steckel in a statement. “By integrating advanced data analytics and into our proven test and evaluation processes, we help our customers move promising capabilities from concept to the fleet faster and with greater confidence.”

American Systems said it will apply its experience in cybersecurity, unmanned systems, software engineering and simulated environments to integrate and evaluate new capabilities securely. The company said it will also use artificial intelligence tools to quickly analyze test data and provide decision-makers with faster, data-driven information.

The contract was awarded in December and has a one-year base period and four one-year options.

Founded in 1975, American Systems provides IT, engineering, testing and training services to the Department of and civilian agencies. The company has about 2,000 employees nationwide.
