Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) plans to expand its presence with a new East Coast corporate campus in Fairfax County.
The project is expected to create up to 1,500 jobs at the 400,000-square-foot One Dulles Tower in Herndon.
AWS, a subsidiary of Seattle-based Amazon.com, offers cloud computing services to businesses, government, and educational organizations.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) worked with the Virginia General Assembly’s Major Employment and Investment (MEI) Project Approval Commission to secure the project.
With the hiring of 600 new employees, AWS will be eligible to receive $7,000 per net new job created, up to 1,500 total jobs, through an custom performance grant. The grant, which was approved by the Governor and the MEI Commission, is subject to approval by the General Assembly.
In a statement, Secretary of Commerce and Trade Todd Haymore noted that nearly 7,000 Virginians already are employed by Amazon,which is also building a distribution center in Frederick County..
