Eleven Virginia universities have been named to Forbes 2016 list of 300 Best Value Schools, including five that made the top 50.
The Virginia schools among the top 50 were Charlottesville-based University of Virginia (No. 19); Williamsburg-based the College of William and Mary (No. 22); Blacksburg-based Virginia Tech (No.29); and Lexington-based Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute (Nos. 32 and 44, respectively). The No. 1 college on the list was the University of California, Berkeley.
The other Virginia-based universities that made the cut were Harrisonburg-based James Madison University (No. 99); the University of Richmond (No. 127); Fairfax-based George Mason University (No. 180); Fredericksburg-based University of Mary Washington (No. 185); Hampden-Sydney College (No. 201) and Sweet Briar College (No. 298).
Forbes partnered with the Washington, D.C.-based Center for College Affordability and Productivity for the list, which was based on tuition costs, school quality, graduation success rates and post-grad earnings.
