New York-based Alcoa  will make a $25 million investment in its Alcoa Power and Propulsion facility in Hampton that will create 75 jobs.

Alcoa Power and Propulsion has been in Hampton for 40 years and serves the aerospace, defense, energy and industrial industries. It makes products that are mostly used in jet engines and industrial gas turbines.

The company will scale-up a technology that cuts the weight of its highest-volume jet engine blades by 20 percent and significantly improves aerodynamic performance.

Alcoa Power and Propulsion employs approximately 8,500 people and has 25 production facilities. It is part of Alcoa Inc., a major producer of aluminum that employs 60,000 people in 30 countries around the world.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe approved a $200,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund for the project. The governor also approved a $450,000 performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Partnership program.
