Bering Global Solutions contract for services at the site concluding
Alaska-based government contractor Bering Global Solutions will lay off 108 employees in Arlington County on June 30, according to a notice to the state dated March 18.
Initially, in a March 13 letter to the state sent to comply with the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, the company said the layoffs would be effective March 31. The layoffs are due to the completion of the company’s federal contract to provide guard services at 701 S. Courthouse Road in Arlington, the site of a naval support facility for the U.S. According to the March 18 letter, BGS’ client requested the company continue to provide services through June 30.
The company has notified the affected employees and their union representatives of the layoffs, and there are no bumping rights, according to the letters. The employees are represented by the Governed United Security Professionals union, based in Baltimore.
In the first letter, BGS General Manager Jorg Jensen wrote: “That said, it is also our understanding that each of the impacted individuals will be hired by the contractor taking over the applicable federal contract.”
The affected positions are officer, armed security guard, captain, lieutenant, technical training instructor, trainer, secretary II and site manager, major.
Bering Global Solutions is part of Bering Straits Native Corp. and provides information technology and protection services. BSNC is headquartered in Nome, Alaska, with an office in Anchorage that oversees government contract work and other operations. BSNC owns and manages nearly 2 million acres of subsurface land and owns more than 50 companies, including BSNC Commercial Services, BSNC Government Services and BSNC Regional Services.
Neither BGS nor the Governed United Security Professionals immediately responded to requests for comment Friday.
