Herndon-based Akima Logistics Services has received a 10-year, $109.7 million contract to support training squadrons at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

Under the contract, Akima will provide organizational and depot maintenance and provide sortie support, scheduling, maintenance and aircraft recovery for flight, parachute and glider training squadrons at the academy. Akima will also provide tow aircraft and tow pilots in support of glider/soaring training.

The Air Force Academy airmanship programs train as many as 2,500 cadets annually.

“We are honored to prepare cadets for their future missions by supporting the Academy’s three major flying training programs and over 15,000 sorties a year,” Scott Rauer, Akima’s facilities solutions group president, said in a statement. “This award demonstrates the confidence the Air Force continues to show in Akima as a trusted provider of aviation maintenance, logistics, and supply chain services.”

In addition to support at Air Force Academy, work will be performed at Peterson Air Force Base, also in Colorado Springs, as well as at the academy’s auxiliary airfield.

Akima LLC is a portfolio of more than 40 companies that contract with the federal government and falls under the umbrella of NANA Regional Corp., a for-profit Alaska Native corporation owned by more than 14,500 Indigenous Iñupiat shareholders from a 38,000-square-mile area in northwest Alaska. The company ranked No. 28 on Washington Technology’s Top 100 List in 2021.
