Accenture has named John Goodman chief executive of Arlington-based Accenture Federal Services (AFS), effective Nov. 20.

Goodman, currently AFS chief operating officer, succeeds David Moskovitz, who will remain with AFS through the end of the company’s 2018 fiscal year, Aug. 31, 2018.

Following the transition, Moskovitz will remain a senior managing director at Accenture.

Goodman has been with Accenture for almost 20 years and has served as AFS’ COO since 2012. He has held a variety of other leadership roles in AFS, including management consulting group lead and defense and intelligence portfolio lead.

Before joining Accenture, Goodman served as the U.S. deputy undersecretary for defense for Industrial Affairs & Installations. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the faculty of the Harvard Business School.

Goodman currently serves as chair of the Executive Committee of the Professional Services Council.
