Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will begin a multimillion-dollar renovation and redesign of Morrison House and The Grille in Old Town Alexandria this winter that will include all guest rooms and public spaces.
The 45-room hotel will temporarily close beginning Feb. 1 and is scheduled to reopen in April. The Grille at Morrison House will permanently close on Jan. 18, after the holiday season, to make way for a new 70-seat restaurant and bar.
According to San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels, the project includes a new design, with the largest modification taking place on the hotel’s main floor. The space will be completely redone to offer more open areas, by bringing the restaurant and bar to the forefront of the building.
Additionally, the hotel’s updated layout will offer a new ballroom with 985 square feet of meeting and social event space that can accommodate corporate meetings or weddings of up to 80 guests.
Los Angeles-based designer David Hill, who also redesigned Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Alexandria in early 2015, will oversee the interior design.
Located at 116 South Alfred St. in Alexandria’s Old Town, Morrison House is within walking distance of antique stores, art galleries, museums, restaurants and the waterfront.
