A state program promoting the hiring of veterans will be the beneficiary of money generated by a professional golf tournament scheduled to take place in Richmond next year.
Richmond-based Dominion Resources Inc., the parent company of Dominion Virginia Power, announced this week that proceeds from the Dominion Charity Classic will benefit the Virginia Values Veterans (V3) program.
Dominion is title sponsor of the tournament, which will be held at the Country Club of Virginia’s James River Course in Richmond on Nov. 3-6.
The event is part of the Champions Tour, a membership organization of professional golfers age 50 and older. Thirty-two of its members have been installed in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
The V3 program will use the donated funds through the Virginia Veterans Services Foundation to create employment opportunities for transitioning military service members. V3 helps Virginia employers implement best practices in recruiting, hiring and retaining veterans.
The Virginia Veterans Services Foundation is an independent state agency that supports veterans and their families through the Virginia Department of Veterans Services’ (DVS) programs and services, including V3.
It accepts donations to support programs and services for Virginia’s veterans and their families that are not covered by state or federal funds.
The nearly 400 employers participating in the program have hired more than 12,000 military veterans since June 2012.
